Lift Hire focuses on Bronto to fuel growth in Ireland

Lift Hire Ireland Ltd is an all-round access specialist serving the whole of Ireland. Their key industry is telecommunications, but they also offer powerwashing and construction services – primarily public street lighting maintenance – and are also involved in TV and film work.

They’re led by director Mr. Enda Geoghegan, who paid a visit to the Bronto Skylift headquarters in Tampere, Finland in connection with his Bronto fleet renewal project.

Wide-ranging access rental with certified IPAF training

Lift Hire Ireland provides rental of Bronto aerial platforms and a range of other access equipment – including van-mounted, boom, scissor and spider lifts. Their centrally positioned locations in Mullingar, Dublin and Cork enable quick, easy access throughout their market area – which they’ve served now for nearly two decades.

“We started doing truck mounted rental in 2007, so we’re very familiar with the range of access needs our customers have. We’re also an IPAF training centre, so I train people on a weekly basis how to operate machines in all access categories.”

Since 2009, Lift Hire has built up a fleet of ten Brontos ranging from 32-metre HDTs to 50-metre XDTs. According to Geoghegan, keeping a variety of Brontos on hand is a major asset for training. The fleet enables him to train operators systematically through each different aerial – and thanks to this, his operators come out the other side with a deep understanding of Bronto aerial platforms.

Telecoms growth drives fleet expansion & renewal

The telecoms industry, Lift Hire’s bread and butter, is continuing to grow in Ireland. Geoghegan and Bronto Skylift are now working together to both expand and renew the Lift Hire fleet. And although the firm’s current Bronto stable tops out at 50 metres, Geoghegan intends to change that soon.

“We do have plans to go higher. Expanding to 70 metres would be the next step up for us. The majority of our work is not necessarily 50 metres high, but we need the outreach.”

For telecoms access, outreach – or side reach – is crucial for reaching out to and maneovring between multiple towers. A generous operating envelope also gives operators more options when considering where to set up the truck, potentially avoiding a challenging off-road excursion.

But scaling his fleet alongside Ireland’s telecoms industry has been a long time coming. Geoghegan purchased his first Bronto, second hand, in 2009 – and for nothing so high-minded.

“Mainly it was because our competitors all had Brontos, and our customers kept saying ‘we only like the Brontos.’ It’s a very commonly used brand in Ireland and the UK. If our competitors had been using something else, I’d probably be talking to someone else today”

Fate aside, his plan now is to buy a new Bronto every year.

“They’re lovely machines. Reliable, sturdy, stable. That’s why we love Brontos so much – they’re just so solid.”
